Wind-up Records has signed British breakthrough band The Virginmarys, a powerhouse trio from Macclesfield who’ve spent the past two years tearing through Europe with a sound the BBC hailed as "raw, intoxicating rock and roll in the finest traditions of the genre."

Kerrang! gave them the band a four-star review and praised the band for “channeling the pure rock grooves of Zeppelin; tight, explosive and wired,” and HMV Awarded the group their "Next Big Thing" honors, which led to blistering set at this year's Isle of Wight Festival.

"The Virginmarys are without a doubt one of the most exciting rock bands I've seen in recent years," says Wind-up Records CEO/President Ed Vetri. "Imagine the bombast of The Who combined with the frenetic energy of Nirvana--that's what a Virginmarys show is like. Their unique sound and style has quickly made them one of the UK's most vibrant new voices and we're thrilled to introduce them to audiences on this side of the pond.”

The Virginmarys (guitarist/vocalist Ally Dickaty, drummer Danny Dolan and bassist/vocalist Matt Rose) will make their highly anticipated U.S. debut in New York City on October 18th at the Rockwood Official CMJ Showcase. They'll follow with an October 19th show in Brooklyn at the Second Annual CMJ Heardcase at The Paper Box.

The band will be playing songs from their recently released EP Dead Man's Shoes, which UK paper The Daily Star gave 7 out of 10 stars and described as the "Stereophonics at their rowdiest via The Black Crowes." The trio recently shot a video for the title track, which can be seen here (and appears on the EP): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SwRIiR-M_o

The electrifying four-song EP serves as an appetizer to the band's fiery full-length debut, King Of Conflict, which is set for a February 5th release. Recorded live with producer Toby Jepson, King Of Conflict was mixed by Chris Sheldon (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, etc) and captures the band at their thrilling best.

“We're really excited to be signed by such a cool American label,” says vocalist/guitarist Ally Dickaty. “Can't wait to get out there!”

The Virginmarys blend the raw dynamics of Mudhoney and the Screaming Trees with the spikiness of punk and the attention to detail and honesty of prime British rock of the early 1970’s, before the wizards and capes overcame the attack and dynamic. Their belief system begins with a devotion to the idea of playing. Live or in rehearsals, the three are at their most comfortable instruments in hand. Having spent three years touring and playing alongside a series of self-released EP’s the band have built a fan base that encompasses the likes of Slash (a regular VM’s T shirt wearer), We Are Scientists, Eagles Of Death Metal and Ash, all of whom have invited the band to support them. In the process they have featured on BBC Breakfast, scored an iTunes single of the week both in the UK and US, had a track featured on Rock Band 3, sold out London’s Garage at a canter as part of HMV’s Next Big Thing series of shows at the close of 2011 and scored "Best Breakthrough Rock Band" title via iTunes Rewind 2010.
